Zakari was born into what many would consider the ideal family. Granted no one was foolish enough to believe they didn't have their own share of problems, but everyone believed that they were ones they would have no issues overcoming. Zakari was five years old when it was revealed that this wasn't true. His parents' happy marriage was anything but. How else could one explain the affiars that his mother was having? It is unclear how many she had. It might have just been one or it might have been a thousand. The exact number didn't matter. What was important was she had ended up pregnant with another man's child, and to make matters worse the man she became pregnant with wasn't even human. Zakari's father left as soon as he found out the news. He couldn't stand the idea of his wife giving birth to another's child and he refused to stick around to raise the bastard. Zakari clung to his father's leg, begging him to stay. He knew that if his father left that would be the last time he saw him, but his pleas went upon deaf ears and his father walked out of his life forever. This hurt Zakari more than he lets on.
Zakari's world crumbled out from beneath him even more than that. He and his mother were forced to move out of their nice neighborhood and into the worse neighborhood within the city--the ghetto if you will. It was a place where calling the police did more harm than good. They lived there for a few months until his mother gave birth. He was there within the hospital, and could have sworn two babies had been born but only one was brought home when his mother was released from the hospital. His mother told him that he had been mistaken, there had only been one baby, when he inquired about it. Having no reason to believe otherwise, he accepted his mother's words. It quickly became clear that his mother hated his brother, Damesis. He didn't share his mother's feelings in spite how much she might have tried to convince him. He loved and adored his brother more than anything within the world, and he did everything within his power to protect his brother. However, he was powerless in the face of his mother's cruelty--a fact that kills him even more than his father walking out.
As the years drifted by Zakari grew to hate his mother. It wasn't just how she treated Damesis that shaped these feelings, but the fact she showed herself more than capable of being a good mother through how she treated him. She doted upon Zakari and treated him like he was a prince. He began to think of killing his mother in order to free his brother, but his brother would free himself when Zakari was ten years old. It was a day like any other. His mother had invited some people over to play with Damesis. She had been prostituting him out since he was young. She had shut Zakari within the living room with his favorite movie playing, hoping that the volume would be loud enough to drown out the noise within the other room. It didn't, but it wasn't until he was older that he matched the noises he heard to what had happened to his brother. The movie hadn't been playing for long when his brother and a little girl that Zakari realized was another victim of the cruelty that was about to take place came rushing into the room.
The two had been left within the same room unattended so they could become acquainted before the fun began. They decided to call Damesis' father, who they decided was the devil. It was not surprising that they came up with this conclusion as Zakari's mother claimed it often enough. They needed a third person to summon him and that was where Zakari came into the picture. Of course, he agreed to help. Zakari didn't know if they could summon the devil, but he saw no reason why they couldn't try. He wanted to keep the idea that it was possible to escape the nightmare he was living within his brother's mind. They rushed into the other room to set up the ritual, but none of them knew what they were doing and it was no surprised that nothing happened--that was until the little girl began to chant in a strange language and then he appeared--the being they all believed was the devil. Both Zakari and the little girl told him to take his son back to hell with him, but the devil denied Damesis being his son. However, sensing the evil within the apartment decided to stick around to watch the events that were about to unfold, claiming that he would gain a few souls that night.
It wasn't long after that Zakari's mother ushered him into the living room with his movie. He doesn't know exactly what happened with Damesis and the little girl. The only thing was one moment he was watching the movie and the next he realized the apartment was on fire. He rushed from the living room to find his brother. It didn't take him long to locate Damesis. He was standing there watching their mother burn. Zakari grabbed his brother's arm and dragged him out of the apartment. He never gave a thought to the little girl. His only thought, his only concern was his brother. However, Damesis had not forgotten her. He kept insisting that they go back to retrieve her. Zakari knew that wasn't a good idea. He told his brother that they didn't need to go back, that the little girl had made it out, but the truth of the matter he had no idea if she had or not. Damesis stared at him for a few moments with a clear question expression before nodding his head in acceptance of Zakari's words. Zakari suggested they went to the police, but Damesis was quick to remind him they couldn't trust the police. Their time in the neighborhood they found themselves within ruined any trust they might have had with the police. It was why Zakari never went to them to save his brother from his mother's cruelty.
The two lived on the streets, taking odd and ends jobs. Damesis became quite good at the jobs he took, even taking ones like the ones his mother forced him to. Zakari watched over his brother, protecting him from anyone who might try to take things too far. They ended up in a few foster homes over the years, some worse than others, but they always ended back on the streets, where Damesis seemed the happiest. When Zakari was seventeen, Damesis was declared mentally unstable and sent to a mental asylum. Zakari has no idea what occurs within this asylum, but he knew he had to get his brother out of there. He knew it wasn't what it pretended to be. He began to work on gaining custody of his brother. He knew it was a long shot, but at the age of nineteen he was granted it. The state informed him that in order to maintain guardianship of his brother that he would have to follow certain rules and guidelines. He agreed. Anything to get his brother out of that place.
For a year everything was good, but then he met and became the lover of a dark one. It was through this dark one that came to learn that the little girl, Damesis and he had summoned the devil with had survived the fire. She belonged to the dark one who had became Zakari's lover. She doesn't seem to recall what happened the day of the fire, and eventually Zakari and she became lovers. It wasn't long after Zakari and the girl started to share a bed that his dark one lover came to his apartment looking for Zakari, but he found Damesis instead. It became clear that he wanted Damesis, but before he could claim his brother Zakari distracted his lover long enough for his brother to slip out of the room. This didn't discourage the dark one, who made his desire perfectly clear to Zakari, but Zakari had no desire of giving his brother to his lover. He didn't tell the dark one this right away, but instead told his lover he needed to talk to his brother about this in private and would bring him to the park at a later date. The dark one found this acceptable and left the apartment.
He doesn't plan on moving on, and why would he when his brother still needed him. It hadn't taken him long to realize that his brother was more then capable of seeing and speaking with him, and he comes to speak to Zakari often. The only downside being killed in the park is that he is restricted there for the moment. Through, he is bound and determined to find a way to roam where he pleased, and following his brother around to act as a guardian angel of sorts for him. Over the years others have proven capable of interacting with him, but very few have proven capable of doing it at the level that Damesis can.
